Ohhh, it’s been a frustrating couple of weeks. I don’t usually like reading blog posts where the person has a long list of gripes. This time, though, I’m going to write a list of gripes. I want y’all to judge whether I have an evil spirit at work in my house.
The evidence for an evil spirit conspiring against me:
The transmission on one of our cars died (and the car was a Honda.)
The kitchen sink suddenly went berserk (but did it sneakily—I didn’t know about its misdeeds until the back-splash of the sink suddenly separated from the wall.)
The upstairs printer died.
The upstairs monitor died.
The wireless repeater died.
My laptop died spectacularly….sizzling and popping during its death throes.
My new laptop seems to think some hot keys are running. It’s striking through this text as I write and I’m going back and correcting it.
The new printer immediately ran out of ink.
It appears my new laptop (Dell) may have to be returned because the “t” only works on the keyboard some of the time. I don’t want to go without a laptop for another 2 weeks.
Evidence for no evil spirit—None.
It’s awful, but all of these problems the last couple of weeks have put me behind on my WIP. And I really need to catch up quickly. Is there someone in the group who can rid me of this blight?
Oh, Gawd. I’m gonna save this post. The next time I feel put-upon by the world, I’m gonna read it. Man that’s a real litany of woes. What’s next, a plague of locus??
Okay, to help lift your spirits, I want you to find at least one good thing that’s happened in that same time. You KNOW they’re out there!

Wow! All of that in a couple of weeks? I am so sorry. Sending all kinds of good thoughts and good karma your way. Hope your luck turns around soon!
Nancy, from Just a Thought…
You’re right, Galen–I need to focus on the positive. So…I’m POSITIVE there’s an evil spirit (or, possibly, a poltergeist) at work in my house.
Really, there have been some pleasant moments the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, my memory is not what it used to be. :)

I’m with you on the evil spirit. I’m convinced I”ve been plagued by one the last few weeks with car troubles, illness, and just one thing after another falling apart. Fortunately, my luck is turning, and I am hoping yours does son as well. In the meantime, hot chocolate and a biscuit while watching bad television is a fairly good cure-all, unless the spirit has infected the television set as well, then it is war.
Last night I received an e-mail from a cousin in Florida who had been on a two-week vacation. When they returned home, they found their freezer had died early on and all the contents, including lots of meat, had thawed and leaked through the underfloor. Aside from the reeking kitchen, they have a huge mess as workers rip up the kitchen. Cousin described the horror in such vivid detail it gave me cold chills. Talk about your evil spirits. Yours is just a tiny harmless gremlin….
By the way, on my cute little Toshiba laptop, it’s the “d” that sticks. Annoying.
Yeah, when the character goes down into the basement—where the light switch never works–looking for a monster, I’m always frustrated. Interestingly, I don’t wanna change the channel or fast forward, I want to complain aloud about how dumb the person is. For a born critic, this is very satisfying and helpful. Maybe audiences/readers have come to accept this behavior. Dunno.

Of course, Patricia, it couldn’t be the ‘x’ key, could it? Sigh.
Dell is shipping me a new laptop. Apparently the keyboard and the motherboard aren’t speaking to each other. Let’s hope all the keys on the new one work!
